…and the thing with the mirrors

As the weather would not improve during our stay in Tarnow, we added a third night there.
The weird thing is that we actually got a little bit bored without cycling and all.
Therefore we were kind of glad to start cycling again on Thursday.

Prior to our departure Alexandra had contacted a Couchsurfer in Tarnobrzeg and he really wanted to accomodate us for the upcoming night – excellent!
The ride there was quite pleasant, pretty calm and flat roads, only one street was a bit flooded, but we liked that too.

When we arrived in Tarnobrzeg the cool teacher Konrad welcomed us and also cooked for us.
And although it was already pretty late, he went with us to Sandomierz – by car, of course.
Konrad has been living in Sandomierz for quite a long time as he was and still is working there, and he wanted to show us the beautiful historic center. Also he could tell us some historical facts about the city and parts of it.

At the end we had some beer, tea, cake and karaoke in a nice bar, where Alexandra stood out with “Total eclipse of the heart” as the other singers did only Polish songs. 😀

Please mind the not completely sober Polish dancers:

After having had breakfast with Konrad the next morning, the trip should have been continued oddly early (already at 7:30 a.m.).

However, after a few meters we found that our side mirrors must have been stolen, which must have taken place during the nightly stay in the basement. Damnit…
Luckily, the one bike shop opened at 9 a.m. and had a very wide range of side mirrors, many more than the shops we visited in Vienna. 😀

Equipped with new side mirrors the journey could continue towards Tereszpol, where we wanted to contact Andrzej from Warmshowers.
He also agreed on accomodating us, but unfortunately, he was not able to be there until the next day.
However, his mother would take care of us, although she did not speak English or German and our Polish was not at all working.
Nevertheless, she took us in with a smile and also cooked for us.
Afterwards she called up her granddaughters who could speak English a little bit.
When they realised that we had been cycling for 110 km that day, they said goodbye and let us rest.
The next day Andrzej’s mother made a great breakfast for us, wow, this woman knows how to prepare meals delicately!

Finally, we could also have a chat with Andrzej himself who is also teacher and is going to cycle from Norway to Poland during summer. Wow!
Also he has a blog where he publishes videos, pictures and texts once in a while and for that he also made a short interview with us.
We are already pretty excited about how that went and will post it in any case here as soon as we have received the link. 😉
After that we said goodbye to Andrzej and his mother to cycle to Zamosc.
According to Andrzej we should check that city out as it is told to be “the pearl of the Renaissance”.
