Back to the roots

After we had said goodbye to Magdalena and Stefan, we proceeded along the Danube. The next stop was in Straubing where Alexandra’s parents came to visit us. It was so great to see them again! 🙂

After about four hours it was time to search for somewhere to stay. So we decided to stay at the local camp site. Although it was pretty cold during the night, at least the showers were heated. 😉
The next morning we could go on cycling towards Passau.

When we arrived in Passau we went to the Kanu camp site. Unfortunately, the showers were not heated and it was already pretty cold during the day. At night it got even colder next to the river and the temperature fell below 5 degrees. Phew, what did we shiver in our sleeping bags! Sleeping was therefore hardly possible…especially Alexandra could feel that the next day. Besides, we either caught quite a cold or our allergies made us suffer, however, we didn’t really feel that great. Nevertheless, we were pretty happy when on 11 April 2016, exactly eleven months after we started our tour, we finally had Austrian earth beneath our feet and wheels again. 🙂

People were speaking Austrian German everywhere and in the evening we went to an Austrian supermarket for the first time again. Wow, what a strange feeling that was! In Linz we could stay with Tobias who had been cycling through Russia and Kazakhstan himself, so we had a lot to talk about. 😉 Thanks again for your hospitality!
